Healthy Balance Fitness:
According to the Alzheimer's Association, 10 million baby boomers - one out of every eight -will develop Alzheimer's disease in the United States. There is no known cure for Alzheimer's but research has found that the best way to preserve your brain starting in middle age is to:
• Exercise 30-60 minutes a day
• Lose excess weight
• Keep blood pressure under control
• Consider drinking coffee if it doesn't make you jittery
• Stay socially and mentally engaged
• Get enough vitamin D
• Eat more leafy green vegetables
• Eat more seafood
To find out more information on Alzheimer's disease visit the Alzheimer's Association website, www.alz.org or the American Health Assistance Foundation website at www.ahaf.org.
Doing everything you can to promote overall good health is the best thing you can do for yourself. Don't wait to get diagnosed with a disease or illness. By simply being more active and watching what you eat you will have a much better quality of life

Did you Know...
Researchers in Finland followed roughly 1,400 people for 21 years to find that those who drank three to five cups of coffee a day in middle age had a lower risk of Alzheimer's or other dementia 21 years later than those who drank more or less. Caffeine is an anti-inflammatory, and Alzheimer's is a disease of inflammation in the brain. People who drink coffee also have a lower risk of Parkinson's, and regular or decaf may help prevent diabetes. Unless you have high blood pressure, or you are pregnant, caffeine may be a safe and effective way to protect against diseases of aging such as diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
